On 25th and 26th June 2025, Health Action in South Sudan (HASS) was honored to attend the National Women Leaders’ Conference at Radisson Blu Hotel in Juba. The event was organized by Concern for Women and Children, an NGO of the First Lady of South Sudan, in partnership with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

The two-day conference served as a powerful platform to amplify the voices of South Sudanese women in peacebuilding, political participation, and national development. As the country edges closer to the next political agreement and transition period, the call for inclusive dialogue and gender-balanced decision-making was clear and urgent.

Representing HASS at this important event were our volunteer staff, Suzan Nyandeng Awet and Phoebe Mojwok, who attended on behalf of Ms. Amylia Adut Deng, Chairperson of the HASS Board of Directors. Their participation reflected our organization's ongoing commitment to advancing women's rights, leadership, and dignity in all sectors of society.

Throughout the sessions, participants explored key themes such as:
1. Women’s participation in peace negotiations and post-conflict governance.
2. Economic empowerment and meaningful employment for women.
3. Acknowledging women’s intellectual and social contributions to national development.
4. Ensuring consultation and representation in political party processes and future agreements.

The HASS team actively engaged in panel discussions, networking sessions, and planning forums—sharing experiences from grassroots health and protection work, and emphasizing the need for policies that recognize and institutionalize women’s leadership at every level.

As an organization rooted in equity, health, and protection, HASS stands firm in the belief that South Sudan’s peace and prosperity are inseparable from the empowerment of its women.
